You were bold, Amerigo Vespucci, to claim Turtle Island as something new that you had discovered
as if no one bothered to tell you it had been here all along
and you declared its inhabitants as meaningless when they had a lot to tell us
You gave a roadmap for the invaders who brought about a world of darkness that comes to fruition today in hate, misunderstanding, war and theories of conspiracy
And I cry
We are beset with maniacal followers of the devious demagogic agitators of hate and fear
as they trample our innocence with their greed and malfeasance
while those claiming they are "born again" are introduced into a nightmare of despair and life withers in their hearts as the demagogues of "faith" rob the faithful by way of the cross in order to produce dogma they will follow down any dark hole
They exalt a demonic god created in man's image
Theirs' is a world where the devil, in the mask of a savior rejoices as they pervert the "word of God" into a mangled soup of hate and guns and ignorance on the superficial alter of the absurd.
I cry as the 4th of July rockets stab the starry night celebrating life without tyranny, as the zealots work hard to establish such, proudly wearing the banner of "patriot" while the American Dream becomes a nightmare without an ending and we awake to find this is only the beginning and the fate of those who gain power by driving others to hate is to build a tower - not of ivory but of the excrement of ages of neglect and drudgery while truth shines brightly in a dim corner of a reality skewed by the defenders of a falsehood where wrong becomes right
They diminish the light of all that is good in their armed obsession to place God in the fight for evil
rather than against it
I cry as we are cloaked with an air of negativity
Our most popular video games glorify death and war, killing and destruction rather than exploring wonder, imagination and positive growth while the defenders of tactical weapons designed to kill the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time rail that an unborn, unconscious fetus deserves more protection than the lives of our school-age children.
I cry as substance abuse, and mass shootings are accepted without defense, while unsubstantiated falsehoods penetrate our political discourse as the march toward a theocratic autocracy does nothing to solve our heartbreak, but only makes matters worse
Nor does it do anything to alter the course of climate change as it destroys the homes of an increasingly impoverished middle-class frogs in a boiling pot.
I cry as those who stand at the podiums of leadership portray examples of either hope or hate while the choices of their constituents is nearly evenly divided.
We have no real leaders.
Those with the possibility of true insight and inspiration struggle with condemnation, demonization, and villainization from a society bent on the passion of civic illiterates guided by their most egregious illusions.
I cry as our inability to communicate a common ground of live and let live, extolling the virtue of shared values leaves us to ponder whether value itself is in question,
while the misguided evangelists of insurrection are driven to believe their best interests are dependent upon the destruction of that which they seek while the perpetrators of greed manipulate the masses into subjugation to the desires of a few who use their wealth to exert power to their own selfish ends.
I cry for justice
I cry for compassion
I cry for the unfortunate homeless
There but for fortune
I cry for peace
I cry for love
I cry for goodness held hostage by the scourge and plunder of all we hold dear
I cry for the Evangelical myth that hate is the new word of a god who must share my tears
I cry for goodness' sake
I cry for what we've lost
When the main court in the land becomes nothing more than nefarious politicians in robes, as they assault freedom and liberty using the Bible to satisfy their own personal ambitions, how do we in good conscience define justice?
Twenty centuries after the birth of Jesus they have taken it upon themselves to define the word of God where it involves a woman's body as they demand that others must adhere to their "godly" beliefs while they produce no substantive proof that this god of theirs has ever even existed.
All this while they demand that they and they alone are the legitimate guardians of freedom and liberty and truth
I cry as the terrorized unfortunate and hungry amass at our borders, and the opposing political party surely is to blame for a situation for which we, as a nation, over years, are partially responsible for the subjugation of populations for the good of corporate enterprise and political control.
I cry for younger generations who, along with those living in the southern hemisphere of this planet, are subsidizing our lifestyle.
Hope is what you have when you have nothing left to cling to.
It is rather undependable
There is stability in optimism
Optimism says "We can deal with this"
I choose optimism as opposed to hope on a stick
Optimism is a problem solver
When all is said and done
We shall overcome
